Gaby’s Restaurant Killarney hosts Battle of the Breeds charity event

March 2016

One week after the Irish Cancer Society’s Daffodil Day, Frank and Teresa invited guests and media from all around to Ireland to join them a beef tasting evening. Thanks to the owners and staff of Gaby’s restaurant, the steaks were cooked and served in prime condition.

The Killarney event assembled an eclectic gathering from the world of farming, national media, business and local community for an evening of fun and great food in aid of Recovery Haven cancer support house, Tralee.

The evening showcased great Irish produce sponsored by Spillane Seafoods, Jack McCarthy Master butcher and beers supplied by the Killarney Brewing Company. Sponsors also included Killarney hotelier Joe Scally, John Collins, Beeftro Dublin and venue hosts Gert and Marie Maes. Gaby’s kitchen and front of house team deserve a special mention for kindly offering their services free of charge to support the fundraiser.

The focus of the event was the steak tasting course offering succulent meat produced at Glen South Farm. Guests were treated to six “mystery” steaks in a blind tasting and voted to nominate a winning breed.

The winning streak of the evening was the luxurious Belgian Blue, a meat rated highly for its tenderness and with comparable flavour qualities to Angus beef.

Dublin venue selected for inaugural Battle of the Breeds event.

An excellent night was enjoyed this week at Beeftro, Dundrum where Glen South beef was featured in a blind tasting dinner. We’re delighted to report that our beef received top votes all around.

One of the guests, Ciaran Larkin,, offered very positive feedback “I was totally taken aback by the quality of The Glen South meat that was used at the blind tasting. It had everything going for it as in texture and taste. The way the meat sat on the plate once cooked, with the juices just ample for giving it that extra flavour, I can only describe it as being top class”

Praise must also go to restaurant owner John Collins and the chef team at Beeftro who really understand what it takes to deliver delicious food.
